Edo Architecture

Kakunodate, a former samurai town, is renowned for its well-preserved samurai residences and picturesque cherry blossoms, offering a glimpse into Japan’s feudal past. A highlight of the town is Kakunodate Buke Yashiki Street, where 162 weeping cherry trees line the street, set against traditional black samurai homes, making it a designated national natural monument. The nearby Hinokinai River Bank creates a stunning 2-kilometer-long cherry blossom tunnel, planted in 1934, providing an ideal spot for scenic riverside strolls. In spring, the town is a cherry blossom haven, and it is also conveniently located near Lake Tazawa, a popular destination for nature enthusiasts.
