Dakigaeri Gorge, often called the Yabakei Gorge of Tohoku, is a stunning natural attraction near Kakunodate. Easily accessible by a 15-minute car ride from Kakunodate Station (or via the convenient "Yobunoru Kakunodate" service), this gorge offers a picturesque 1.5km walking trail from Dakigaeri Shrine to Mikaeri Falls. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of steep cliffs, various waterfalls, and forests filled with pine, cherry, and maple trees. Note that the trail beyond the Iimura Boy Statue is currently closed due to damage, and the gorge is typically closed during winter until late April. The best time to visit is during the lush green season or the vibrant autumn foliage season.
