Iconic Rollercoaster Bridge

Sakaiminato, located in Tottori Prefecture, is a unique destination that blends engineering marvels with rich manga culture. It’s famously home to Shigeru Mizuki, creator of GeGeGe no Kitarō, and features the popular Mizuki Shigeru Road, lined with over 100 yokai statues and the Mizuki Shigeru Museum, making it a lively pilgrimage site for fans of folklore and anime. Just outside the city lies the dramatic Eshima Ohashi Bridge, a 1.7 km rigid-frame bridge connecting Sakaiminato to Matsue across Lake Nakaumi. Nicknamed the “rollercoaster bridge” for its steep gradient (6.1% on the Shimane side, 5.1% on the Tottori side), it offers stunning views of Mount Daisen and the lake. Together, these attractions make Sakaiminato a rare mix of playful nostalgia and striking scenery.
