Tradition meets Renewal

Iwanuma is a coastal city in Miyagi Prefecture that blends deep-rooted tradition with post-disaster renewal. The city is home to Takekoma Inari Shrine, established in 842 AD, considered one of Japan’s oldest Inari shrines. Another notable site is Kanahebisui Shrine, renowned for its 300-year-old wisteria and peony gardens. Following the 2011 tsunami, Iwanuma developed Millennium Hope Hills, a memorial park with walking trails and the Iwanuma Sheep Village, where visitors can interact with sheep and enjoy a peaceful coastal setting.
