Located north of Takekoma Shrine, Niki no Matsu Historical Park is dedicated to preserving the renowned "Takekuma no Matsu" pine tree, a designated cultural property of Iwanuma City. This famous tree was immortalized by Matsuo Basho in his "Oku no Hosomichi" travelogue. The park was established in 1989 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Basho's journey. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the green space and view the iconic pine, now in its seventh generation. The park features benches, a small rest area, and a toilet. It's conveniently accessible, being a 15-minute walk from Iwanuma Station on the Tohoku and Joban Lines, or a 10-minute drive from the Iwanuma IC on the Sendai Tobu Road. A statue of Basho and a monument inscribed with his poem can be found on the way to the park.
