Important Cultural Property

Hakui, at the base of Ishikawa’s Noto Peninsula, offers a mix of coastal charm and cultural sites. Visitors can drive along the unique Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, explore the historic Keta Taisha Shrine, and visit Cosmo Isle Hakui, a space-themed museum with real spacecraft displays. The city is known for the Myojoji Temple, founded in 1294 by Nichizō, a disciple of Nichiren. It stands as the head temple of Nichiren Buddhism in the Hokuriku region. Its expansive grounds feature ten structures designated as Important Cultural Properties, including a striking five-story pagoda completed in 1618—the only one in Japan with a tochibuki (layered bark) roof.
