8th Century Temple
Sairenji Temple, founded in 782, is renowned for its two 1,000-year-old ginkgo trees, designated as natural monuments of Ibaraki. From late November, the temple grounds are transformed into a golden carpet of fallen leaves, beautifully contrasted by red maples and blue skies. The Sorin Tower, a nationally important cultural property, adds to the temple’s historic charm.
