1000 Red Trees

This historic head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect in Fukuoka Prefecture, known as Miyama-san, is a beloved site for prayer and autumn foliage. With around 1,000 maples and enkianthus trees, the grounds and approach to the temple turn vivid red from late October to November, creating stunning views. During the Autumn Leaves Festival (October 26 to November 24, 2024), special ceremonies, children’s Shichigosan celebrations, and access to the Yugi Pagoda and Hanamusutei Garden enhance the seasonal charm. Note: the temple is quite remote and requires a 15 min taxi ride from the nearest station.
