The Former Shime Coal Mine Shaft Tower stands as a landmark of Shime Town's coal mining history. Built in 1943 by the Imperial Japanese Navy, this 47.6-meter tall reinforced concrete structure was used to transport miners and coal from a depth of 430 meters. Designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 2009, it is one of only three similar structures remaining worldwide. While currently under preservation (expected until October 2020), visitors can still admire its imposing presence from a distance. Located a short walk from the Nishitetsu Higashi Koen-dai 2-chome bus stop and a 5-minute drive from the Sue Smart IC, it's an easily accessible historical site.
