Highest Western Peak
Ishizuchi Tozan Ropeway in Saijō, Ehime Prefecture, offers an 8-minute ascent from Shimodani Station (455 m) to Sancho-Joju Station (1,300 m), providing access to Mount Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan. From the upper station, a 20-minute walk leads to Ishizuchi Shrine Jojusha, a sacred site and starting point for the Omote Sando trail to the summit. The trail features optional chain-assisted climbs and offers panoramic views, attracting both pilgrims and hikers.
