8th Century Pilgrimage Site

Tatsueji Temple, the 19th stop on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, is located in Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture. Founded in the 8th century by Gyoki, it is renowned for its principal image of Enmei Jizō Bosatsu, carved by Kūkai, who enshrined a smaller statue within it to preserve its sanctity.
