Monkey Bridge

Saruhashi, or "Monkey Bridge," in Ōtsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, is a historic wooden bridge spanning the Katsura River gorge. Recognized as one of Japan's three unusual bridges, it features a unique hanebashi design, utilizing layered cantilever beams embedded into opposing cliffs without any supporting piers. The bridge is renowned for its scenic beauty, especially during autumn when surrounding maple and ginkgo trees display vibrant foliage. Its picturesque setting has inspired artists like Hiroshige and is designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty.
