Sacred Peak

Straddling the border of Nara and Osaka, Mount Kongō stands at 1,125 meters and is the highest peak in Osaka Prefecture. Renowned for its accessibility, the mountain offers several beginner-friendly hiking trails, such as the Chihaya Main Route and the Fushimi Pass Route, each taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the summit. Along the way, hikers can explore historical sites like the ruins of Chihaya Castle and visit sacred spots such as Katsuragi Shrine and Tenporin-ji Temple, both linked to the ancient practice of Shugendō. In winter, the mountain transforms into a snowy landscape, attracting visitors eager to witness the frost-covered trees known as "juhyō." With its blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and well-maintained trails, Mount Kongō offers a rewarding experience for hikers of all levels.
