Kotente-ra Hashimoto-in is located in a place considered to be the legendary site of Takamagahara from Japanese mythology, and has been revered as a sacred place since ancient times. Nestled in the embrace of Mt. Kongo, the area is known as Takaama, a name befitting its status as the place where gods descended. While the temple itself may be small, the surrounding mountain scenery offers a divine experience, especially with the seasonal flowers in bloom. The temple is said to have been founded by the priest Gyoki during the Nara period at the request of Empress Gensho. Be aware that the road leading to Hashimoto-in is very narrow, so caution is advised when driving.
