Limestone Caverns

Ikurado Cave in Niimi is one of western Japan’s most impressive limestone caverns, stretching 1,200 meters with a vertical relief of 90 meters. Inside, visitors encounter dramatic formations like “Gin Sudare” (Silver Screen), “Kurageiwa” (Jellyfish Rock), and the 50-meter-high underground waterfall, Chi-jiku no Taki—the tallest of its kind in Japan. The cave maintains a cool 15°C year-round, making it a refreshing summer destination. A shrine near the exit honors Arisa, a tragic figure from local legend, now revered as a deity of love and matchmaking. Easily accessible via a 15-minute walk from JR Ikura Station, Ikurado is a rewarding day trip from Okayama City
