Kumano Kodo Gateway

Kii-Tanabe serves as the gateway to the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage and offers a blend of coastal beauty and cultural heritage. Ogigahama Beach, a crescent-shaped shoreline near the station, is ideal for swimming, sunsets, and family outings. Cape Tenjinzaki features tidal rock flats and a unique ecosystem, protected as Japan’s first National Trust site. The city is also the birthplace of legendary warrior monk Benkei and the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, with related monuments and museums. Just south lies Shirahama, a popular resort area known for its white-sand beaches and hot springs.
