Carved Cliffs

Kizetsukyo Gorge, located in Tanabe, Wakayama, is a scenic valley carved by the Aizu River, renowned for its seasonal beauty—cherry blossoms in spring, the cool waters of Fudo Falls in summer, and vibrant foliage in autumn. The gorge features numerous uniquely shaped rocks, with the most notable being the cliff face above Fudo Falls, where three large Buddhist statues are carved into a single rock formation. A short hike from the falls leads to this impressive stone carving, offering visitors a blend of natural and cultural experiences. Easily accessible from Kii-Tanabe Station via a 15-minute Ryujin Bus ride, Kizetsukyo Gorge provides a tranquil retreat into nature's artistry.
