Islets in Rice

Kisakata, located in Nikaho City between Mount Chōkai and the Sea of Japan, is a serene landscape once formed as a coastal lagoon and reshaped by an 1804 earthquake. The area is now known for its pine-covered islets scattered across rice fields, a scene famously admired by poet Matsuo Bashō. Visitors can stroll walking paths with views of Mount Chōkai, visit nearby Kanmanji Temple, and enjoy the natural beauty of Naso no Shirataki and Mototaki waterfalls. Nikaho also offers cultural spots like the TDK Museum and Shirase Antarctic Memorial, along with local seafood and seasonal festivals, making it a peaceful and varied destination.
