Imperial Shrine

Kirishima Shrine, in the Kirishima mountains, is dedicated to Ninigi no Mikoto, the god who descended from heaven in Japanese mythology, bringing the imperial regalia and establishing the lineage of Japanese emperors. Originally built during the Muromachi Period, the shrine has been repeatedly destroyed by volcanic eruptions and reconstructed, with the current structure dating to 1715. Surrounded by lush forest, the shrine is renowned for its beautiful architecture and cultural significance.
