Kitayama Village is renowned for its traditional log rafting on the Kitayama River, a practice rooted in the region's logging history. Visitors can experience this unique activity during the rafting season, which typically runs from May to September. For relaxation, the village offers Okutoro Onsen Yama-no-Yado, a hot spring inn nestled in the scenic Dorokyo Gorge. Access to Kitayama is limited; travelers can reach the village via a community bus from JR Kumano-shi Station, with only two buses operating daily.
