Okutoro Gorge is an 11 km-long valley located upstream of Toro Gorge, within the Yoshino-Kumano National Park, spanning Nara, Mie, and Wakayama prefectures. Also known as "Toro Hatcho," this nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty offers breathtaking views of cliffs and uniquely shaped rocks. A recommended way to experience Toro Gorge is by taking a water jet boat tour, which lasts approximately 2 hours. As you venture deeper, the river transforms into a serene lake, revealing stunning vistas of unusual rocks, giant boulders, waterfalls, and towering mountains. The best time to visit is during the autumn foliage season for an even more spectacular experience. Access is available via a 65-minute bus ride from JR Kumano City.
