The Akahama Observatory, located at the entrance to the Kuji Coast, home to the "Northernmost Ama divers," offers stunning panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from its elevated vantage point. During the summer months, visitors can enjoy the sight of the beautiful yellow Nikko Kisuge flowers blooming along the Kosode Coast. The observatory is easily accessible, just a 10-minute drive from Kuji Station. While the southern coastline is clearly visible from the concrete platform, the view towards Kuji Bay to the north is partially obscured by trees. Despite some signs of wear, this easily accessible spot provides a rewarding scenic experience. It's a great place to stop and appreciate the coastal beauty of Iwate Prefecture.
