The Togirechi Jinya Ruins, a National Historic Site, offer a glimpse into the late Edo period. Built in 1855 by the Matsumae clan to defend against foreign ships, the site features reconstructed gates and remnants of earthworks and moats. While the original structures were burned down during the Hakodate War, the remaining fortifications provide insight into the era's military architecture. The site is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom season, when the path leading to the ruins transforms into a stunning tunnel of cherry blossoms. Located in Hokuto City, Hokkaido, it's accessible from Kaminiso Station via the Donan Isaribi Railway. A visit here combines history with scenic beauty, especially during spring.
