The Goryo Tea House Honjin, located between Matsuida-shuku and Sakamoto-shuku on the Nakasendo Highway, offers a glimpse into the Edo period. This well-preserved "ai no shuku" (post station) features two adjacent buildings, the original "O-Nishi" (west side) and the branch "O-Higashi" (east side), both belonging to the Nakajima family and open for tours. These buildings, constructed in 1806, served as rest stops for lords and nobles traveling to and from Edo (Tokyo). Visitors can explore the traditional architecture, including the upper-level rooms built in the shoin-zukuri style, and view exhibits showcasing silkworm specimens and farming tools. Enjoy complimentary barley tea in the garden while admiring the view of Mount Myogi. It's a great place to experience a piece of Japanese history.
