Kiunkaku

Overview

Kiunkaku is a designated cultural property in Atami, once loved as one of the city's three great villas. Originally built as a private residence in 1919, it later served as a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) frequented by famous literary figures like Osamu Dazai. The architecture blends Japanese, Chinese, and European styles, set within a lush 3,000-tsubo (approximately 2.5-acre) garden. Explore the historic buildings, including the Roman-style bathhouse and sunroom with stained glass. Located a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride from Atami Station, Kiunkaku offers a glimpse into the elegance of the Taisho and Showa eras. Open to the public, admission is ¥610 for adults.
