Mt. Io Yusanji Temple, founded in 701, is renowned as a spiritual mountain temple for eye health. Legend says that Emperor Shoken's eye disease was cured by the water from the temple's Ruri Falls. The temple features a beautiful vermilion three-story pagoda set amidst a serene cedar forest with streams and waterfalls. Key highlights include the mountain gate (relocated from Kakegawa Castle), the three-story pagoda, and the Yakushi Nyorai statue in the main hall, all designated as important cultural properties. Visit during the autumn foliage season for stunning views, and be prepared for some walking on mountain paths. Located in Fukuroi, Shizuoka, it's a 15-minute drive from both the Tomei Fukuroi IC and JR Fukuroi Station. Don't miss the autumn-limited 'goshuin' (seal).
