Izawa-no-miya Shrine

Overview

Izawa-no-miya Shrine, also known as Izatsu-miya, is revered as one of the most prestigious branch shrines of the Ise Grand Shrine. Legend says it was established when Yamatohime-no-mikoto ordered Izawatomino-mikoto to build it during her travels in Shima. The shrine is known as "Shima's premier shrine" and holds a special place among the Ise Grand Shrine's branch shrines. Don't miss the Izawamiya Otaue Festival, one of Japan's three major rice planting festivals, held annually on June 24th and designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Located in Shima, Mie Prefecture, it's a short walk from KaminoGo Station and a 10-minute drive from the Shiraki IC on the Daini-Ise Road. The shrine grounds offer a serene atmosphere with ancient trees.
