Chikurin-ji Temple

Overview

Chikurin-ji Temple, also known as Tosa's Monju, is the 31st temple on the Shikoku Pilgrimage route. Founded in 724 by the monk Gyoki, who sought a mountain resembling China's Mount Wutai, the temple features a main hall and other structures designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The garden, attributed to the esteemed monk Muso Kokushi, is one of Kochi Prefecture's three most famous gardens and a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. Easily accessible by bus from Harimaya Bridge, it's a must-see for those exploring Kochi's cultural and natural attractions.
