Omiwa Shrine, one of Japan's oldest shrines, is revered as the primary shrine of Yamato Province and known as Miwa Myojin. Dedicated to Okuninushi, a deity associated with snakes, it is a guardian of national development, medicine, sake brewing, and protection against misfortune. Uniquely, Mount Miwa serves as the enshrined deity, with no main hall; worshipers pray towards the mountain through the Mitsu-Torii gate. The Haiden (worship hall) and Mitsu-Torii are designated Important Cultural Properties, with the latter being a distinctive combination of three Myojin Torii gates. Located a 5-minute walk from Miwa Station in Sakurai, Nara, the shrine offers a serene and historically rich experience. Visit in the morning to fully appreciate the tranquil atmosphere and ancient traditions.
