The Hozumi Bridge, located a short walk southwest of JR Uwajima Station, is a modest bridge over the Tatsuno River. Originally named 'Honkai Bridge,' it was renamed in 1930 to honor Chenzhong Hozumi, a figure known as the 'father of Japanese civil law.' Though the bridge itself is unassuming, a nearby stone monument and explanatory plaque detail its history. Hozumi declined a bronze statue in his honor, preferring instead to have a bridge named after him, embodying his desire to be of service to the public. Nearby, you'll find Hozumi-tei, a well-known local cuisine restaurant, making it a convenient stop during your visit to Uwajima. The bridge is registered as a national monument.
