The Atomic Bomb Hypocenter Monument marks the spot where the atomic bomb detonated over Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Located in the Hypocenter Park within Nagasaki Peace Park, the monument consists of a simple black granite pillar. Visitors can also see remnants of the Urakami Cathedral and layers of earth from the time of the bombing. The site is easily accessible via the Nagasaki Electric Tramway, a short walk from the Matsuyamamachi stop. Allow at least 30 minutes to respectfully explore the area.
