Tenguiwa Rock, a striking natural landmark in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture, is a 100-meter-high, isosceles triangle-shaped rock face visible along Route 400 near Shiobara Onsen. According to local legend, a mischievous tengu (a long-nosed goblin) once resided here and was subdued by the Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi. Visitors can enjoy scenic views of Tenguiwa from the Fukuwatari Bridge, which offers unobstructed perspectives of the rock, the Hokigawa River, and the surrounding landscape. For a closer experience, a hiking trail leads to the top of Tenguiwa in about 20 minutes, rewarding hikers with panoramic views of the Shiobara area. The autumn foliage season is particularly beautiful, with the white rock face contrasting against the colorful trees. A free parking area near the Fukuwatari intersection provides convenient access and photo opportunities.
