Lake Hime

Overview

Lake Hime, located at an altitude of 130m, is a serene lake with a circumference of approximately 800m and a depth of about 2m. Originally created in 1917 by damming up the spring water of Mount Rishiri to promote freshwater fish farming, it's named after the stocked kokanee salmon (hime masu). Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lake on a well-maintained wooden path, offering picturesque views of Mount Rishiri reflected on the water's surface. The best time to visit is in the morning for calm waters and clear reflections. A shop near the parking area sells local photographs, postcards, and coffee made with Rishiri mountain spring water. Note that there are no restrooms by the lake, so use the facilities in the parking area beforehand.
