Sugawa Plateau, located on the border of Iwate and Akita prefectures, is a popular gateway for climbing Mount Kurikoma. The area features a well-maintained parking area and rest house, along with the Sugawa Kogen Onsen, where visitors can enjoy a relaxing hot spring bath. The trailhead area boasts steaming hot spring waters flowing through the landscape, creating a picturesque scene, especially during the autumn foliage season. The plateau is accessible by bus from JR Ichinoseki Station. The area also features a natural foot bath, though the water is quite hot.
