Jizo-do Hall (The Headless Jizo)

Located near 6612-1 Manganji, Minamioguni, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, the Jizo-do Hall (Headless Jizo) is a significant site in Kurokawa Onsen, accessible in about 60 minutes from Hita Interchange on the Oita Expressway. This small temple houses a Jizo statue with a unique legend tied to the origin of Kurokawa Onsen. According to the legend, the Jizo selflessly took the place of a man who stole to feed his sick father, leading to the emergence of the hot springs. Visitors often leave used onsen passes as offerings. The hall provides a serene contrast to the bustling onsen town, offering a glimpse into local history and spiritual traditions.
