Iwamatsu-in Temple, founded in 1472, is located in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture. It is accessible by a 10-minute drive from the Obuse Smart Interchange or a 30-minute walk from Obuse Station. The temple is famous for its stunning phoenix painting on the ceiling of the main hall, a late-life masterpiece by Katsushika Hokusai. The temple also features the tomb of feudal lord Fukushima Masanori and a pond where the poet Kobayashi Issa composed his famous frog haiku. Open to visitors for a small admission fee, Iwamatsu-in offers a serene and culturally rich experience.
