Heirin-ji Temple, founded in 1375 and relocated to Niiza in 1633, is the family temple of the Matsudaira clan, including Matsudaira Nobutsuna, known as "Izu of Wisdom." The temple features culturally significant architecture, including a thatched-roof main gate, mountain gate, Buddha hall, and middle gate. Its expansive grounds, nearly nine Tokyo Domes in size, are designated as a natural monument, showcasing beautiful seasonal changes in the serene forest. Note that Heirin-ji is also a Zen training monastery, so visitors are asked to maintain a quiet atmosphere. Open from 9:00 to 16:30 (last entry at 16:00); closed December 31. Admission is ¥500 for adults and ¥200 for elementary school students.
- No Goshuin (seal) available. - Please maintain silence when entering the temple grounds (due to the Zen training center). - Photography using tripods or monopods is prohibited. - Smoking is prohibited throughout the temple grounds.
