The Chagu Chagu Umakko festival at Onigoe Sozen Shrine is a vibrant summer event in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. This unique festival features horses adorned with colorful decorations and bells parading from Takizawa Village to Morioka Hachimangu Shrine. The procession, which includes around 100 horses, is a celebration of the region's agricultural heritage. The sound of the bells has been recognized as one of Japan's treasured soundscapes. The festival takes place annually on the second Saturday of June. The shrine itself features a horse deity and a traditional sumo ring.
