"Seagull and Maiden Statue"

Overview

Located right in front of Miyako Station, the "Seagull and Maiden Statue" is a bronze sculpture by Miyako City native, sculptor Yasumasa Yoshikawa. Created in 1977 when Yoshikawa was 84, the statue was originally placed in Oikiri (Shigemoto) before being moved to its current location in 1999 to commemorate the Iwate Interhigh. This statue, depicting a maiden gently holding a seagull, offers a touch of art and local charm to the station square. It's a quick and accessible landmark to appreciate while passing through Miyako.
