Located within Wakkanai Park, the Wakkanai City Northern Memorial Museum features a striking 80-meter-tall tower offering panoramic views from its observation deck, 240 meters above sea level. Inside the museum, discover exhibits detailing the history of Wakkanai and Sakhalin, including archaeological artifacts and displays about the Ainu people and the explorations of Rinzo Mamiya. The observation deck provides stunning vistas of the Sarobetsu Plain to the south, the Sea of Okhotsk to the east, and the islands of Rishiri and Rebun to the west, with glimpses of Sakhalin Island to the north on clear days. Open seasonally from April to October, admission is ¥400 for adults and ¥200 for children. The museum is accessible by a 20-minute walk from Wakkanai Station or a short drive, with free parking available.
