Okunitama Shrine, located about 6 km east of central Iwaki City, is the oldest shrine in the city, revered as the chief shrine among the seven Iwaki shrines listed in the Engishiki and the seven seats of Iwaki County. The shrine is known for its large, ancient cedar trees at the entrance and a long stone staircase leading to the main hall. The current main hall, built in 1679 during the Edo period, is designated as a city-designated cultural property. Legend says that General Sakanoue Tamuramaro prayed for victory here during his eastern expedition.
