Nestled in the serene foothills of Daishizan Mountain in Katsuyama, Fukui, the Daishizan Kiyoshodaiji Temple, also known as the Echizen Great Buddha, offers a tranquil escape. Inaugurated in 1987, the temple's main attraction is a 17-meter-tall Great Buddha, surpassing even the Nara Buddha in size, modeled after the Longmen Grottoes in China. Visitors can explore the impressive Great Buddha Hall, adorned with thousands of stone and gold Buddha statues, and ascend the 75-meter-tall five-storied pagoda for panoramic views. The temple also features a replica of China's treasured Nine Dragon Wall and a beautiful Japanese garden that changes with the seasons. The temple is accessible via a 10-minute drive from Katsuyama IC on the Chubu Jukan Expressway. The grounds are equipped with various barrier-free facilities, including elevators, wheelchair rentals, accessible restrooms, attendant services, and diaper changing stations. Admission is ¥500 for adults and ¥300 for students.
