The site is also known for the freshwater springs beneath the main enclosure, which are home to the delicious Shiroshita Karei flounder. While the castle keep is no longer standing, the reconstructed corner turret offers a glimpse into the past. The castle ruins are conveniently located a 5-minute walk from JR Yokoku Station and a 5-minute drive from Hiji IC on the Oita Expressway. Visit during the spring to enjoy the cherry blossoms along the castle walls.
