The Ojiya Fireworks Festival, held in Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture, is a highlight of the summer. While not as large as some of the region's other famous fireworks displays, such as Nagaoka or Katakai, it offers a less crowded and more intimate viewing experience along the Shinano River. The festival features impressive three-shaku (90cm diameter) fireworks, a vibrant parade of 'Manto' floats crafted by local neighborhoods, food stalls, and other attractions. The fireworks display culminates in a grand finale of large starmines funded by community donations. Held annually, usually on the fourth Saturday of August, it's a great opportunity to experience a local festival with spectacular fireworks.
