Pilgrims would solidify their commitment to Buddhist practice here before proceeding. Today, it serves as a popular starting point for hikers, offering a gentle 7km (2-3 hour) downhill walk to the Grand Shrine. The shrine itself features a vermilion-lacquered shrine pavilion and torii gate. Located a short distance from the bus stop with restroom and rest area facilities, it provides a serene and historically rich experience. The path from Hosshinmon-Oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha is considered an easy hike for beginners.
