Statue of Kumagai Naozane

Overview

Located just outside JR Kumagaya Station's north exit, the Statue of Kumagai Naozane commemorates Kumagaya Naozane, a prominent military commander from the late Heian and early Kamakura periods. This imposing equestrian statue depicts Naozane in full samurai armor, capturing a moment of historical significance. It's a quick and interesting landmark to see while passing through the station. The statue is situated in the middle of the rotary, so be mindful of traffic when viewing it. It was created by sculptor Kitamura Seibou, who also created the Nagasaki Peace Statue.
