Suwa Shrine, located in Chizu, is a historic shrine dating back to the Kamakura period. A branch of the Suwa Grand Shrine in Nagano, it's known for its beautiful autumn foliage, especially the vibrant maple trees. The main hall was rebuilt in the Meiji era, showcasing a sense of history with its aged pillars and roof. The shrine is a tranquil place to visit, offering scenic views and a peaceful atmosphere. Every six years, the shrine hosts the 'Pillar Festival,' a dynamic event where large cedar trees are carried through the town and dedicated to the shrine.
