Shikabe Onsen, discovered in 1666, is renowned for its therapeutic waters. Legend says a traveler named Goro Ito witnessed a deer healing its wounds in the hot springs, leading to the establishment of the onsen. Today, the town boasts over 30 hot spring sources with sulfate and sodium chloride sulfate waters, known for relieving nerve pain, rheumatism, and chronic digestive issues. Located in Shikabe, Hokkaido, it's accessible via a 19-minute bus ride from JR Shikabe Station followed by a 5-minute walk, or a 30-minute drive from the Onuma Koen or Mori IC. Enjoy the local seafood cuisine at nearby onsen ryokans.
○ Shikanoyu Onsen Ryokan: Renowned for its seasonal seafood dishes caught off the coast in front of the ryokan. Enjoy meals in the privacy of your room (breakfast and dinner). The open-air bath with the scent of the sea is also popular. Note: The bath water is diluted due to the high temperature of the source spring. ○ Yoshinoyu Onsen Ryokan: Popular among the residents of Shikabe Town for its warming waters that are said to keep you warm long after bathing. The cuisine features local Hokkaido ingredients, such as seafood from the waters near Shikabe and vegetables from Nanae, offering seasonal dishes. Note: The bath water is diluted due to the high temperature of the source spring. ○ Royal Ho
