Shunpukan Fukkokan (National Important Cultural Property)

Overview

The Shunpukan Fukkokan is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property in Takehara, Hiroshima. Once the residence of Rai Sanyo's uncle, Rai Shunpu, who was a physician and Confucian scholar, the Shunpukan was originally built in 1781 and rebuilt in 1855 after a fire. The adjacent Fukkokan was built later by Rai Shunpu's adopted son's family, who were involved in salt production and sake brewing. While the interiors are not open to the public, visitors can admire the traditional samurai-style architecture and the historical atmosphere from the street. Located a 15-minute walk from JR Takehara Station, it's a must-see for those exploring the Takehara Preservation District.
