Mount Io

Overview

Mount Io, also known as Ioudake, offers a broad summit with an open crater to the northeast, providing a rugged and scenic landscape. Located in Chino, Nagano Prefecture, at an elevation of 2742m, it's a popular destination for hikers. Access to the mountain typically involves a 3-hour hike from the Sakuradaira parking area, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including Mount Aka, Mount Amida, and the Northern, Central, and Southern Alps. The summit provides a 360-degree panorama, and on clear days, you can even see Mount Fuji. Many hikers combine a visit to Mount Io with a trek to Mount Aka or Mount Tengu. Be prepared for potentially strong winds at the summit, and check conditions before you go.
